John Daviston, CFSP

John grew up in Newnan and graduated from Newnan High School in 1993. He is a graduate of Auburn University and Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service. John holds the distinction of being a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) which is the highest professional designation in the funeral industry. He is a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer as well as a licensed agent for insurance sales. John is member of the First United Methodist Church, the Newnan Rotary Club and Young Entrepreneurs' Organization (Y.E.O.). He is a graduate of Leadership Coweta. He previously served as a board member of The Newnan Coweta Boys and Girls Club and the Community in Schools program. He is a current board member of Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City and the Summit Family YMCA. He is the chairman of The Keith Brooking Children's Foundation and is a founder and organizing director of First Coweta Bank. In October of 2008, John was named one of the “Top 40 under 40” by Georgia Trend Magazine. He is married to Meredith Mosley Daviston and is the father of Wilson Lanier Daviston.

Terry Daviston


Terry was born in Pea Ridge, Alabama and is a longtime Newnan resident since purchasing the funeral home from the McKoon family. He served in the U.S. Army in Japan for several years where he was in Military Intelligence. Terry graduated from the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science and is a licensed funeral director & embalmer. He served as the President of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association in 1996. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Newnan and the White Oak Golden K Kiwanis Club. He serves on the board of directors for Neighborhood Community Bank and Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City. In 2004, Governor Perdue appointed Terry to serve on the Georgia State Board of Funeral Service. He is married to Martha Ann and is the father of Tracy Daviston Piepho and John Daviston. He is the proud grandfather to Sawyer Daviston Piepho and Wilson Lanier Daviston. Terry enjoys spending time with his family and riding his Harley-Davidson.

Lamar Wright


Lamar was born and grew up in Newnan and attended the Newnan Public Schools. A graduate of The State University of West Georgia and an honor graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service, he is married to Cathy Jackson Wright and has two sons, Brian, a pilot for ASA, and Adam, a professional musician. Lamar attends Central Baptist Church, having served as a deacon. He is a member of the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce and serves a director and treasurer of the Newnan Coweta Association for Retarded Citizens/ Rutledge Production. He has been associated with McKoon Funeral Home since 1988. In August 2008, Lamar retired from full-time employment but continues to assist when needed.

 


Glen Burkett


Glen Burkett has worked at McKoon Funeral Home since graduating from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in 1996. He is a member of The Academy of Graduate Embalmers of Georgia. He and is wife, Erica Wilson Burkett, who is employed at Glanton Elementary School in Grantville, attend Oaklawn Baptist Church and live in Grantville.

Jeanie Ross


Jeanie is our office manager and handles all the legal documentation for families. She routinely handles Social Security notification, filing life insurance claims, composing & coordinating the filing of death certificates, and working with the Veterans Administration. She is a native of Roanoke, Alabama and has lived in Newnan since 1995. Jeanie is married to Ken Ross and they have two children Kevin & Kaity.

Mark Massengale


Mark Massengale is a native of Coweta County and grew up in Senoia. He is a graduate of East Coweta High School and Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service. Mark is a licensed funeral director and embalmer. He is an active member of The Church of God of the Union Assembly in Newnan.

Ron Tracey


Ron retired from the United States Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer. His last assignment was the Command Master at the Naval Reserve Readiness Center in Dallas, TX, where he was responsible for training more than 1700 Naval Reserve personnel. He later worked for American Airlines as a reservations system trainer, an instructional designer and later as a human performance technologist. Upon retirement from the airline, he worked as an instructional designer for Home Depot. Ron is in our apprenticeship program and implements his considerable computer skills in advancing our technology. He is married to Karen Owen Tracey and has two children and three grandchildren.

Amanda Johns


Amanda is an honor graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service and is a member of the mortuary fraternity Pi Sigma Eta. She is a Georgia Native where she grew up in Peachtree City. She and her husband, Ricky, are the proud parents of three preschool children who attend Newnan Presbyterian Preschool. She is a member of Faith Creek United Methodist Church where she enjoys singing in worship service and serving on the prayer team. In her free time, she enjoys dog training in the sport of Schutzhun and outdoor activities with her family.

Adam Brown


Adam is a native of Griffin, GA and graduated from Griffin High School and Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service. He is a member of West Sunny Side Community Church in Spalding County. Adam holds a first degree black belt in Shotokan Martial Arts. He enjoys fishing, camping, and riding bikes. In July 2008, he married Kristen and they live in Newnan.

Connie Singleton


Connie J. Singleton joined McKoon Funeral Home in 2008 as Family Service Counselor, and has been a Newnan resident since 2006. Connie helps families after the funeral service and serves as a resource to assist them with the grieving process and the business matters that must be completed. She also works with families in preplanning funerals. Connie graduated from National-Louis University in McLean, VA with a B.A. in Business Management, and worked for ten years with the National School Boards Association in Alexandria, VA in advertising sales and meeting planning. She is a member of The First Baptist Church of Newnan, where she plays in the “Bronze Praise” Handbell Choir and is a member of both the Bereavement and Visitation/Welcome Basket Committees. Connie is an active member in the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce and was recently chosen to participate in "Leadership Coweta," Class of 2008-2009. She and her husband, Curtiss, have two children who attend Coweta County Public Schools.

David Smith


David Smith has worked with McKoon Funeral Home for over 30 years. A native of Newnan, David served on the Newnan Police force for over 30 years retiring as a Lieutenant. His sons and grandsons all live in Newnan. David is a Mason and is the secretary of Coweta 60.

 


Richard Smith


Richard Smith is a host for many of our visitations and a staff organist. He taught English at Newnan High School for more than 30 years. He is a member of Moreland First Baptist Church where he is the longtime organist. Richard lives in Moreland.

 


Gary Cunningham


Gary came to McKoon Funeral Home in the summer of 2006 when he and his wife of 41 years relocated to Newnan from Louisville, KY. They are the parents of three married daughters and the proud grandparents of eleven (7 boys & 4 girls). Gary is an ordained elder and has pastored five churches all in Indiana. He has fifteen years experience in the funeral business as a chaplain and grief counselor. Gary and his wife Donna attend Trinity Fellowship Church in Sharpsburg, GA.

Charles Rivers


In February of 1999, Charles relocated to Tyrone from Savannah due to a merger of his employer, Norfolk Southern Railroad. He moved from Tyrone to Newnan in 2001 when his wife, Marti, began teaching at Elm Street Elementary School. He retired from Norfolk Southern in November of 2004 after 34 years of service. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Newnan where he serves as an active deacon and is the chairman of the Greeters’ Committee and volunteers at the AO House. He enjoys walking, golfing, traveling, and working at McKoon Funeral Home.
