Alvin Loyd Cox

Alvin "Al" L. Cox, 82, of Newnan, Georgia passed peacefully at home the morning of November 30, 2025, surrounded by his family, leaving behind a legacy of love, artistry, family, and devotion. Al was born in 1943 to his parents Herman and Zelma Cox in Griffin, Georgia. He joined the family as the youngest brother of Clayton and Ronald Cox. On July 1, 1960, Alvin married his beloved wife, Barbara Guyton. Though they were young, they built a life rooted in love and dedication, raising a family that was always at the center of his heart. Together they raised their daughters Patricia and Allison. Their love grew into a large family full of grandchildren and great-grandchildren that brought him so much joy. In his last days, his family was what brought him joy and peace. Alvin turned his love of art and nature into a way to provide for his family, spending more than 60 years as a skilled taxidermist. Talented is the word that is used most to describe him in his work. Beyond his profession, he was a passionate artist and sculptor who was known for his extraordinary talent and meticulous perfectionism. His creations reflected not only his craftsmanship but also his reverence for the beauty of God's world. A devout Christian, Alvin's faith guided him throughout his life. He was a man of quiet demeanor, but those who knew him best cherished his warmth, wit, and humor. He never missed an opportunity to share a cheesy one-liner or dad joke, bringing laughter and light to those around him. His family will always remember him as a caring husband, father, and grandfather whose love was steady, calming, and enduring. Al is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Zelma Cox, and his brothers, Clayton and Ronald. He leaves behind to carry on his legacy his wife, Barbara; his two daughters, Patricia (Michael) Teague and Allison (Christopher) Creel; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren through the loving marriages of his family that he counted as his own, along with countless friends and loved ones who will forever treasure his memory. Alvin's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and artistry. Though he was a quiet man, his presence spoke volumes, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 from 6 - 8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, GA.
