Barbara K. Cox

Mrs. Barbara Helen Kenneda Cox, 91 of Newnan, Ga. Formerly of the Woodlands, Kerrville and Baytown Texas passed away in her sleep on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at her home at the Claiborne House in Newnan, Ga. She was born April 30, 1934, in Lockport, New York To the Late Ralph Alton Kenneda and Anna L. Kenneda. Barbara grew up on a small farm in upstate New York close to Niagara Falls. Went to College in Wilmington Delaware where she met her late husband Leon Cox Jr. of Baytown Tx. at a USO event for the local sailors. They were married 50 amazing years. They loved to travel together going around the world to places like Germany, Holland, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. They spent 3 years living on a sailboat, sailing up and down the Gulf Coast of Texas. Barbara finished her business degree at Lee College in Baytown. Barbara enjoyed the life of being a housewife and volunteering at the local church and sometimes she would volunteer as a librarian for a school or the city she lived in and took great pride in keeping the smallest library organized. Her hobbies were knitting, playing the piano, picking flowers or taking part in craft night at the local church (East Newnan Baptist). Her real passion was walking. She did walks with a group called Walking Adventures. She walked a 10-mile trek in all 50 states. Her last walk completed was with her son Frank and daughter in law Susan November 2019 in San Diego, California. She was thrilled to show Frank the hospital he was born in. Barbara, our mom was a good one. Taking care of 3 sons was a challenge yet each of us made it through life. All of us turned out pretty good. I'm so proud of the way she took care of my dad who had ALS. My brother Barry called her the Tiny Avenger, handling such a horrible disease for an entire year, most on her own, she cared for him, showing him the unconditional love that all of us hope to emulate with our families. Her strong faith in God over the years gave us a good example of how to be good men. Thankfully all the sons and wives have turned to the Lord. Paul loved her very much and enjoyed all the Astros games they watched together. Paul wrote "She was a great woman, and I know that I finally made her proud. One of my biggest accomplishments. May she rest in peace enjoying all the company of those that passed before her. I love you mom. You are already greatly missed." Survivors include her son and daughter in law Frank D Cox (Ret Air Force Major) and Susan from College Station, Tx, son and daughter-in-law Barry A Cox (ret Harris County Deputy Sheriff and firefighter) and Kathryn from Newnan, Ga and son and daughter-in-law Paul D Cox (Entrepreneur/Boy Scout Master) and Stephanie from the Woodlands Tx. She is survived by 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Most of the Grandkids live in Texas with one residing in the Philippines.
