Benjamin Daniel Weyant Mr. Ben Weyant, 22, was taken by angels into the waiting arms of Jesus and his Heavenly Father, October 3, 2011. Since the age of 7 he had fought a courageous battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, but God have him the final victory, a new and perfect body. Ben was born August 18, 1989 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Brad & Doretha Weyant. He is preceded in death by sister Christina Suzanne Weyant and grandparents Howard & Betty Weyant. Ben's family moved to Newnan, GA when he was 4 years old and he attended Canongate Elementary, Madras Middle School and graduated in 2008 from Northgate High School as an honor student and a member of the National Honor Society. He also attended the University of West Georgia. Even though Ben was greatly hindered by physical limitations, he never let that stop him from doing the things he loved. Music was a big part of his life and singing, in particular. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Newnan and enjoyed his high school years being a member of the Senior High Choir. He was able to travel with his choir to many places in the United States. In 2006 the choir traveled to New Orleans and Pearlington, Mississippi to help a church that had been destroyed by Hurrican Katrina. The next year the choir participated in Youth Cue and joined many high school church choirs from around the U.S. to make a 300 voice choir which performed at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Of all his experiences with his choir the most exciting was a tour in Europe. Senior High Choir traveled for 11 days and had concerts in Germany, Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland. The place he enjoyed most was Salzburg, Austria. The choir was able to sing at Mirabelle Gardens where parts of the movie, The Sound of Music, had been filmed. Since 2008, Ben has been a member of the First Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir. Ben would want everybody to know that he loved sports and even though he could not participate physically himself, he could root louder than anyone for his beloved Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He loved to go to the Jackets football games and last Saturday watched them beat N.C. State from his hospital bed. His cry was Go Jackets!!! What a year they have given him so far!!! The most important thing that Ben would want everyone to know was how much he loved God. He had a very strong faith and knew that one day His Father would take him home to Heaven. He had been studying about Heaven in his college summer Bible study. One book that meant a lot to him the past few weeks was Heaven Is For Real. He knew that one day he, too, would see the wonderful things that Colton had seen in Heaven. The funeral is Friday, October 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Newnan with Dr. Jimmy Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The visitation is Thursday evening between 6:00-8:00 at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St, Newnan, GA.
