Bertha Catherine Harris

Bertha "Bert" Catherine Studdard Harris, 100, of Newnan, GA, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, at Claiborne at Newnan Lakes, Newnan, GA. She was born on January 10, 1926, in Atlanta to the late Henry Allen Studdard and Martha Rivers Studdard. In addition to her parents, Bert was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert James Harris, and her youngest child, Janice Harris Toler. Bert grew up in Ben Hill, GA, and was a 1943 graduate of Russell High School. After high school, she graduated from G.S.C.W. in 1947, which is now called Georgia College, located in Milledgeville, GA. Bert earned a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and in Music. She taught kindergarten, music, and second grades in Fulton and Clayton County Schools. After retirement in 1988, Bert taught for one year in a private Christian school. Her teaching career spanned over 40 years. After she excitedly told her friends and family about her birthday, a 100th-birthday celebration was held in her honor in January. She was a longtime member of Oakland City Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. Bert accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior and was baptized at a young age. After getting married in 1949, she taught a class for young married women at her church. Bert married Herbert James Harris, and they were married for 65 years before he passed away. Bert was a loving, caring mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. She was also a great encourager and prayer warrior. A celebration of life will be held on May 16, 2026, at 3:30 PM at Claiborne at Newnan Lakes, Newnan, GA. Survivors include her son, Wesley (Robin) James Harris of Marrietta, GA; daughters Elaine (Greg) Harris Davis of Lawrenceville, GA, Melaine Harris of Newnan, GA; grandchildren Ryan Harris of Kennesaw, GA, Kyle Harris of Ellijay, GA, Brett Davis of Cumming, GA, Heather Davis McCullough of Mead, WA, Samuel Carter of Newnan, GA, Allison Carter of Ranburne, AL, Wesley Toler of Raleigh, NC; great-grandchildren, Cassidy Harris, Conner Harris, Piper Davis, Hadley Davis, Camden Selah Davis, Bryce McCullough, Sydney McCullough, Blake McCullough, Ethan Steipen, Jackson Carter, and Presley Carter.
