Charles "Chuck" Cleveland

Charles Beachem (Chuck) Cleveland passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on October 16, 1946, in Arlington, VA, he was the son of Horace Calhoun and Bernice Marion Cleveland. The family, including a brother, Barry, moved to Atlanta on June 16, 1962, and Chuck finished high school there before attending Georgia State from 1964 to 1968. He graduated with a BBA degree and a major in management. Chuck became a Christian in 1971. He attended numerous churches in the Atlanta area, including First Alliance, Mt. Paran Church of God, and Central Baptist in Newnan. Chuck worked as a Supervisory Quality Assurance Specialist for most of his 35-year career with the Federal Government, retiring in 2004. Chuck married Barbara Ann Evans, the love of his life, on July 31, 1976 at First Alliance Church in Atlanta. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Quebec City, Canada. That began a series of excursions that included Maui for their 30th, Kauai for their 35th, and London for their 40th anniversary as well as multiple trips to Italy, including Venice, Florence, and Rome. Chuck and Barbara celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 31 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Lastly, they spent many memorable Christmases with family and friends at The Grove Park Inn, Asheville, NC. After retirement, Chuck pursued his passion for writing. He wrote more than 25 "A Slice of Life" articles for the Newnan Times-Herald and covered college basketball for the paper for approximately 15 years. Chuck also wrote travel articles for the Newnan Coweta Magazine and several other publications, with Barbara contributing photographs, in addition to writing many feature and personal interest stories for Better Times Magazine and other Christian publications. Chuck will be remembered as a loving husband for Barbara, a friend to many, a good brother to Barry, and a good and faithful servant of the Lord. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and his brother, Barry, of Agoura Hills, California. "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4: 7.
