Connie Keith Singleton

Connie Keith Singleton of Newnan lost her short but courageous battle with cancer during her final trip to her childhood home of Hayti, MO on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. She was surrounded by loved ones and she conducted herself with dignity until the end. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Pearl Keith and brother Don Keith. She is survived by her daughter, Lori Horne (and husband Rob Horne); stepdaughter, Teresa Bowles; stepson, Gary Bowles; grandchildren,Kathy Horne, Alex Horne. Kristen Ziegler, Lauren Grigery, Corey Bowles, Kayleigh Bowles; great-granddaughter, Grace Grigery; brother, Mike (and Norma) Keith; sisters, Betty Shannon, Pat Lenox, Shirley Moore and many loving nieces and nephews. She was known as the “peacekeeper” of the family to her brothers and sisters, but her many nieces, nephews and grandchildren remember her as kindhearted, but a jokester. Her quick wit and beautiful singing voice will be dearly missed at gatherings of family and friends alike. Connie was a loving, generous and compassionate mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Throughout her life, Connie was a staunch advocate for women’s rights and the safety and care of children and seniors. As Director of the Arkansas Agency on Aging in Blytheville, AR, and as the Director of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Poplar Bluff, MO, Connie provided compassion and dignity to the senior community. After her move to GA, Connie worked at the Coweta County Department of Family and Children’s Services, where she held many titles over the years and retired as Program Manager. During her employment with DFCS, she also served as a consultant to the state office in the Policy and Procedures Division and was responsible for helping to mold the state policy regarding children’s safety. During her long career with DFCS she was personally responsible for stabilizing many families and protecting the rights and safety of numerous children. She was a dynamic force in Coweta County and will be dearly missed. Connie made a lasting impression on anyone that she met. In her last months, she requested that “I Did it My Way” be the theme of her memorial service. In many ways, that was also the theme of her life and almost always “her way” was the right way. Connie will be honored with a memorial service at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St. Newnan, GA at 7:00 pm on May 25th, 2012.
