Dorothy Smith Massengale, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Dorothy was born on June 1, 1931, in Senoia, GA, one of five children to the late Alsie Smith and Rosa Todd Smith. Along with her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Norman Lanier Massengale, Sr., and siblings, Hoyt Smith, Roger Smith, Carolyn Smith Cates, and Jenelle Smith Cowan. Dorothy was always on the go, embracing every opportunity for adventure and connection. Her deep devotion to her family was evident in everything she did. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and joy. Dorothy's faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her in all she pursued and inspiring those around her. In addition to her love for family, Dorothy had a passion for shopping. Whether hunting for treasures or finding the perfect gift, she brought joy to every shopping trip, making even the simplest errands a delightful experience. Dorothy will be remembered for her caring nature, unwavering faith, and the love she spread to all. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and cherished memories. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she touched many lives and will forever remain in their hearts. The family would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to Guiding Light Hospice, Denise Alexander, and Keturah Maynard for all the care and love they gave Dorothy during this time. The service celebrating Dorothy's life is Friday, September 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, in Newnan, with Dr. Julie Schendel and Dr. Danny Barton officiating. The burial service will follow at Senoia City Cemetery with Pastor Phil Bevel assisting. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM ~ 8:00 PM at McKoon Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Dorothy's name to Senoia United Methodist Church, 229 Bridge Street, Senoia, GA. 30276 or the Alzheimers Association, 225 N. Her grandchildren also survive her, Bryan Massengale (Tonya), Joey Massengale (Lyndsey), Matt Tinsley (Connie), Scott Tinsley (Kimberly), Jordan McDonald (Destiny), and Morgan McDonald, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-greatgrandchild, several nieces and nephews, and two cousins, Jackie Burton and Paul Moore.
