Douglas Allen Adams

On Sunday, October 16th, 2022, Douglas Allen Adams, loving husband, father, and grandfather, unexpectedly passed away. He was 59 years young, living with his family in Newnan, Georgia. Those who were lucky enough to know Douglas would most frequently describe him as genuine, young-hearted, strong willed, and kind spirited. He was a deep well of knowledge that was unbounded, something he enjoyed sharing with countless others. He was a storyteller and creator of many things. He was passionate about many professions and unwavering in his faith. He was also a pillar of many communities, transforming the lives of so many people across multiple generations through his love of learning and sharing knowledge with everyone he had the opportunity to do so. Douglas met his lifelong soulmate, Diana, in 1981. Deeply in love and inseparable, they created a large, beautiful, kind-hearted tribe together in the community of Newnan, GA over the span of a 39 year marriage. Douglas's epic all began in Newnan, GA, in the year of 1963, where he spent most of his life as an exemplary Newnanite. He graduated from Newnan High School in 1981 and soon after joined the United States Navy in the year 1982. During his time in the U.S. Navy, he participated in Operation Urgent Fury, the United States Invasion of Grenada. After serving proudly in the U.S. Navy, he returned home to Newnan, GA to successfully manage the Dairy Queen Franchise Business on Jefferson Street, which his father originally built and founded. He continued his education at West Georgia College, earning a bachelor's degree that double majored in studio art with an emphasis in glass and ceramics. He also obtained a master's degree in education at Phoenix University. Douglas began his career with the Coweta County School System in 1986 and he continued to dedicated his services to the school system through 2022. He taught at Newnan High School for 25 years. During his tenure, he did it all folks! At NHS, he taught art, drove a school bus, created a safe learning environment for everyone, founded the chess club, generously volunteered his own time, money, and pottery equipment over the course of many years so that students could have access to the best art education resources for continued enrichment and development. Survivors include his father Archie Adams, his wife, Diana Adams, his sons Caylen Adams, Andrew Hartman, Nathan Adams, Blake Adams, Taylor Adams, Zachary Adams, Jacob Adams, Elliot Adams, his daughters Alayna Adams, Amelia Adams, Ansley Adams, Allison Adams, Anna Adams, and Adalynn Adams, his grandchildren, Lucy Adams, Oliver Adams, and Thomas Leonard. His niece Andrea Duke, his nephew Johnathan Scott, and his grandmother, Arlene Morgan. Douglas was proceeded in death by his stepfather, Frank Roberto, his mother, Gwendolyn Roberto, his nephew, James Scott Jr. and his brother, Greg Adams.
