Edward Thomas Doyle, Jr.

Edward "Ed" Thomas Doyle Jr., 94, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026, at PruittHealth in Fairburn, Georgia. He was born on March 9, 1932, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, to the late Edward Thomas Doyle Sr. and Margaret McTague Doyle. Before entering the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Ed worked as a turret lathe operator for Boston Gear Works in Quincy, Massachusetts. He served in the Army from November 20, 1952, to October 21, 1954, with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 2nd Division Artillery. He received a Bronze Star and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class. After returning to Massachusetts, Ed married Carole Wilkins. They had four children, and he worked as a lineman. He later moved to California, where he married Jacqueline "Jackie" Doyle in 1975. Together, they made their home in the Van Nuys area, where Ed worked as a printer for the Los Angeles Rescue Mission. Ed was also a devoted older brother to Peter, who lived with him and Jackie for many years. Known to his grandchildren as "Grampy," Ed will be remembered for his quick wit, big heart, and creative spirit. He loved photography, dogs, and, above all, his family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life, and he eventually moved from California to Georgia to be closer to them. He was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Suwanee, Georgia. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Doyle; his brother, Peter Doyle; his stepsons, Michael Neeley and Rhett Neeley; his son-in-law, J. Larry Hamby; and his stepson-in-law, Jay Edwards. Ed is survived by his children: Cheryl Hamby and her partner, Chip Miller; Kathy Montgomery and her husband, Michael; Michael Doyle and his wife, Sandra; and Kelly Shelton and her husband, Michael; his stepdaughter, Richa Edwards; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service honoring Ed's long and full life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Saint Mary Cemetery, 245 North Street, Randolph, Massachusetts.
