Fred Rice

Frederick Lee Rice (Freddie/Fred), 74, of Newnan, Georgia, passed away on August 20th, surrounded by family, after a life filled with service, hard work, good laughs, and a whole lot of Georgia Bulldog football. Born in LaGrange on February 6, 1952, Freddie moved to Newnan as a child and found everything he needed there, including his high-school sweetheart, Robin Brown, whom he married and loved for a lifetime. A proud Western High School grad who served as Class President in 1970, Fred went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps, the Marine Reserves, and later the Army National Guard, completing six years of military service. Next, Freddie worked in the construction field and eventually became a Real Estate Appraiser, a career he carried from the early 1990s until retiring in 2020. Freddie loved sports from the start, including baseball and basketball growing up, then softball and golf as an adult. Golf became his favorite pastime, especially when played with friends or his sons. In the fall, he cheered on the Georgia Bulldogs with enough enthusiasm to be heard down the street. He also loved to travel, especially cruises and road trips. He enjoyed seeing the world, meeting new people, and collecting stories he'd retell with a little extra flair each time. One of the highlights of Freddie's life was the 5-year vacation he and Robin took to Panama City Beach from 2020 to 2025. Nothing mattered more to Freddie than his grandchildren. He was their biggest fan, attending dance recitals, school plays, and sporting events with the kind of pride that could light up a room. If one of the kids had something going on, Freddie was there. Known for his outgoing nature, strong work ethic, and willingness to help anyone at any time, Freddie made life brighter and more fun for everyone around him. Freddie lived joyfully, loved deeply, and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and heart. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Robin; sons Andy (Rachel) and Matt (Christine); and grandchildren Robin Frances, Caroline, Alexander, and Bennett. He is preceded in death by his parents, Garven and Nancy Rice, and siblings Danny, Jimmy, and Vickie. A visitation will be held at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, GA, on August 28, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
