Hal Stripling Graham

Hal Stripling Graham, 69, of Newnan, passed away suddenly of a heart attack Monday, July 6, 2026 at his home. He was born on June 1, 1957, in Durham, North Carolina to the late Dr. Thomas Caston Graham and the late Harriette Stripling Graham. In addition to his parents, Hal was preceded in death by his brother Thomas (Tommy) Caston Graham, Jr. Hal grew up in Newnan alongside his older brother, Tommy, who was only fourteen months older. Though Tommy was the more serious of the two, Hal was the adventurous brother-the one who could usually be found hatching a new idea or getting into harmless trouble. One family story that still brings smiles is the time the two brothers managed to set the backyard on fire while shooting Roman candles at each other. Their bond was deep and enduring, and Tommy's tragic death in an automobile accident at the age of 21 was a loss that remained with Hal throughout his life. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where in his younger days he enjoyed playing basketball and softball on the church's recreation teams.Hal graduated from the University of Georgia and never lost his love of the Dawgs. He was quick with a story to make you laugh, enjoyed a good time, and loved to make people feel welcome wherever he went. Beneath that, however, was a man of unwavering loyalty. If you earned Hal's trust, you had a friend for life. He was generous to a fault and was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. Hal owned and operated Spanky's, a beloved local gathering place known for its live music, good company, and lively atmosphere. Although the business was eventually lost to a fire, Hal found a new path. He built a career owning and managing rental properties, becoming the kind of landlord who saw people before problems. He understood that life's hardships can happen to anyone and often extended kindness, patience, and grace to his tenants when they needed it most. Hal leaves behind countless memories of laughter, generosity, and unwavering friendship. Above all, he leaves behind his loving wife, Susan Stoddard Graham, who stood beside him through the many chapters of his life. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Graham Doster (Sam) of Newnan; niece, Samantha Elizabeth Doster of Newnan; niece Kristen White McDonald (Daniel) of Paragold, Arkansas; nephew, William Graham Doster of Atlanta and nephew Matthew Tyler White(Jasmine) of Kings Mountain, North Carolina.
