Harry Thomas Hunter

After putting up a strong battle these last months, Harry Thomas Hunter lost his fight against lung cancer early on the morning of February 27th at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. He peacefully gave up the bonds of this life and slipped into that great beyond he truly believed awaited him in the presence of God – a truth he had recently affirmed. Harry was born in Newnan December 15, 1946 and was the son of the late Richard Thomas and Wyvette Lucrete Shelnutt Hunter. He was proud of the heritage of the Hunter family in Coweta County and expanded on that heritage by his active involvement with his large family and his greater family of friends in the community. For 33 years, Delta Airlines benefited from his dedication to detail in any task assigned to him. His amiable spirit enabled him to be a team leader and one who would see any task through to completion. Harry’s greatest love, though, was his family. He gave his greatest energy to being a loving husband, kind and encouraging father and grandfather without equal. Sunday lunches with those around him who he loved were the most special times of his life. In the free time he managed to squeeze out of his busy life, he was the consummate outdoorsman. He loved the great creation of nature and would often break up the peace and quiet with a little target practice. Surviving Harry is his wife Margaret Millians Hunter. His children are Melanie Hunter Jones and Rick, Jill Hunter Costley and Craig, and Sara Hunter. Giving Sunday lunches a real edge were his grandchildren Rebecca Williams Vaughan (Chris), Taylor Jones, Madison Jones, Gracie Jones, Bailey Billitteri, Connor Costley and great grandchild Caden Ryan Vaughan. Also surviving are his brothers James Lee Hunter, Roy A. Hunter and David Bryant Hunter. Last, but certainly not least, he lives behind his best buddy, Sonny. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street where the family will receive friends on Sunday between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The funeral will be on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 2:00 PM at White Oak Presbyterian Church on Gordon Road. Officiating will be Reverend Tom Shoger and Reverend Chuck Wilson. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Gable, Daniel Hawk, Michael Fouts, Chris Millians, Philip Millians, Buster Hunter, Ben Sewell and Don Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow Delta retirees.
