Jerry Orrick McGuffey

Jerry O. McGuffey, beloved husband, father, and family man, passed away on August 25th, 2026, just one month shy of his 95th birthday. Jerry was born on September 25, 1931, in Americas, GA, to the late Eddie and Erma Orrick McGuffey. In addition to his late parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, Grant McGuffey and Mark McGuffey. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Lola Watters McGuffey; his son, Bruce McGuffey; his daughter, Susan McGuffey Schau and Lola's children, whom he loved and considered an important part of his family. 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His brothers Jim (Nancy) McGuffey, Jack (Mary) McGuffey, and Joe McGuffey. Jerry was especially proud of his military service. He entered the Army as a young seventeen-year-old private. After reaching the rank of sergeant, he was given the opportunity to attend helicopter flight school, where he graduated at the top of his class and earned the rank of Warrant Officer. After serving two tours of duty in Vietnam and later in Panama, he retired as a CWO4 with twenty-three years of service to his country. He served with honor and carried that experience with him throughout his life. His military service was an important part of who he was, and he remained deeply proud of having served. After retiring from the Army, he enjoyed various careers that included teaching, sales, and engineering. He was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Greenville, SC. Jerry's life was defined by love, loyalty, service, and family. He cherished the time he shared with those he loved and leaves behind a family who will carry his memory in their hearts. Jerry will be remembered for his strength, devotion to family, and the love he shared with those around him. He was a man who valued family above all else and took great pride in the lives of those he loved. Though he will be deeply missed, the love he gave and the memories he created will remain with his family for generations to come. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved sons, Grant and Mark, and knowing he was deeply loved and will never be forgotten. The service celebrating Jerry's life will be held Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, GA. Burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday beginning at 12 o'clock at the funeral home. McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory 770-253-4580
