Joe Hill Manning

Mr. Joe Hill Manning, 84, of Newnan, Ga passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 10th at Sacred Journey Hospice. He was born November 21, 1939, in Atlanta, Ga to the late Roland Clifford Manning and Gladys Reynolds Manning. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Chris Robin Manning, as well as sister, Louise Merchant, sister, Evelyn Adams, sister, Vivian Taylor, sister, Dorothy Morgan and sister, Ann Sellers, brother Robert Manning, and brother Jack Manning. Joe grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Joe managed several local grocery stores, which is where he met Pat. They met in July of 1967 and subsequently married August 12, 1967. Throughout his lifetime, Joe did commercial heating and air conditioning and eventually opened his own independent grocery stores. He closed his last store in his 70's and after that he drove a school bus, did local deliveries for several auto parts stores and worked for Coweta County as a monitor at recycle stations, which he only gave up approximately 6 weeks before his death. As you can see, retirement wasn't in his vocabulary. Joe's greatest loves were his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was known to be a jokester and always pulling pranks. The funny thing was, he could dish it out, but could not take it in. He loved Alabama football, Richard Petty racing, and he was never short on speaking his mind. He also loved the beach and he and Pat had one last trip this past year. Joe and Pat were members of Sunnyside Baptist Church in Newnan, Ga. The service celebrating his life is Sunday, January 14, at 4:00 pm at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, Ga. The visitation will prior to the service on Sunday from 2-4pm at McKoon Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Joe has requested that donations be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Patricia Ann Manning; daughter Marlo (Casey) Smith; grandchildren, Cassie (Matt) Brown, Sierra (Holden) Brooks, Jacob (Rachel) Smith, Chase Manning, Hannah (Trey) Wood and Austin Manning. Great-grandchildren include Paisley Brown, Summer Brown and Ryleigh Wood. He is also survived by his brother Donald Manning.
