John Thomas Keeble

Mr. John Thomas Keeble, 88, of Newnan, GA passed away Saturday, December 5, 2009. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim T. & Ruby Hodges Keeble, by his wife of 34 years Doris Embry Keeble and his wife of 17 years Beverly Upchurch Keeble, his brothers Joe and Troy Keeble and his sister Martha Lovvorn. He is survived by one brother Roger Keeble(June) of Newnan, sisters Jean Richardson (Fred) of Candor, NC, Ann Cope of Birmingham, AL, Pearl Lester of LaGrange, many nieces and nephews and his pet and constant companion Brandi. Mr. Keeble retired from the H.V. Kell Wholesale Grocery Company in Newnan where he spent 25 years as a salesman for the company. In 1970 he went to work for the Georgia Building Authority as the superintendent of the State greenhouses in Atlanta. Mr. Keeble received proclamations for his contributions to state government from Governors George Busbee and Joe Frank Harris as well as the Georgia House of Representatives. He retired from the state of Georgia in 1986. Following his retirement Mr. Keeble was an active volunteer in the Peachtree Regional Hospital Chapter of Senior Friends where he had previously served as president. Mr. Keeble was also active in the White Oak Golden "K" Kiwanis Club where he received the Hixson Award. Mr. Keeble was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He served with the U.S. Navy, assigned to the Pacific Fleet aboard the U.S.S. Suwannee and the U.S.S Telfair. His military career has taken him to Okinawa, Hiroshima, Philippines, New Zealand, Australia and New Caledonia. Mr. Keeble often spoke to Newnan High School students about his military career as part of their Veteran's Day observance. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Newnan where he had previously served as the church's treasurer. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.mckoon.com The funeral service is Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 11:00 am at Macedonia Baptist Church in Newnan with burial following in the church cemetery. The visitation is Monday evening between 6:00 – 8:00 at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St, Newnan. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund, 1504 Macedonia Rd, Newnan, GA 30263.
