Mr. Leslie Lee Lobaugh

Leslie "Les" Lee Lobaugh, 91, of Newnan, GA, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at his home in hospice care after a battle with cancer. He had recently moved to Newnan from Titusville, FL. Les was born May 22, 1935, in Boston, MA, to the late Robert Edward Lobaugh and Ruby Finn Lobaugh. Les grew up in Boston, Florida and South Bend, Indiana. He graduated from South Bend Central High School, where he was a standout swimmer. He won five Indiana state championships and set state records in the 50-yard and 200-yard freestyle, later earning induction into the Indiana High School Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame. He then attended Michigan State University on a swimming scholarship, earning a degree in political science while competing for the Spartans. In 1956 he earned All-American honors in the 200-yard Individual Medley, the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, and the 300-yard Medley Relay. Les served in the U.S. Army with the Signal Corps in the 1st Infantry Division, the "Big Red One," based at Fort Hood, Texas. After his military service he worked out west in Montana and Wyoming, where he helped build roads through Yellowstone National Park and worked at the UXU dude ranch alongside his sister and brother-in-law. He later worked for TWA at Kennedy Space Center, where he met his wife, Marilee "Lee" Gibson. During the Vietnam War the couple moved to Korat, Thailand, where he worked as a TWA contractor supporting U.S. Army operations at Camp Friendship. Following the war, Les began a long career with Wackenhut International and rose to Vice President. He traveled the world providing airport fire services and setting up security for financial exchanges and U.S. embassies, with assignments in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, England, Korea and Hong Kong. Les loved to travel and never missed a chance to watch a good sporting event. He especially loved Montana, where he and Lee spent many summers in Bozeman fly fishing and camping. He is survived by his wife, Marilee "Lee" Gibson Lobaugh of Newnan; son Tristan Lee Lobaugh and wife Tania of Newnan; daughter Tricia Leigh Lobaugh of Peachtree Corners, GA; sister Sybil Lobaugh Hedrick of Fort Collins, CO; and granddaughter Louisa Lobaugh Tran.
