Robin Gene Tornow

Brigadier General (Retired), Robin Gene Tornow, 68 of Newnan, GA passed away Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. He was born in 1942 in Monroe, WI to the late Eugene William Tornow and Antonia F. Nuwash Tornow of Newnan. General Tornow was a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, CO. General Turnow retired from the U.S. Air Force after 29 years of service to his country. He was serving on the National Board of The Arnold Air Society and Silver Wings. General Tornow received a Master’s Degree in Engineering Mechanics from University of Texas. He was active in developing the plans and securing the funds for the Veterans Memorial Plaza in Newnan. General Tornow was director of the University of West Georgia Newnan Center for 11 years, was a member of the Newnan Cultural Arts Commission, board member of the United Way of Atlanta and was also a member of the VFW, the Newnan Rotary Club and he was Coweta County Citizen of the year in 2008. Rob was an active member of Newnan First United Methodist Church. General Tornow is survived by his wife, Barbara Kelly Tornow of Newnan; daughter, Kelli and husband Brad Frazier of Grapevine, TX; son, Brett and wife Kristin Tornow of Roswell, GA; mother, Antonia F. Tornow of Newnan; brother, Joel Tornow of Meridian, ID . He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jordan and Jackson Frazier and David and Ryan Tornow. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Aug. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, GA 30263. Interment will be held at a later date at the Air Force Academy Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
