Roger Jay Meyerhoff

Roger Meyerhoff, husband, father,brother, brother-in-law, and dear friend died at home surrounded by his family on Wed. March 23, 2011. Roger taught all of those who knew him the meaning of courage and grace as he strove to make the of best of his struggle with liver cancer. Roger loved being engaged in conversation and you quickly knew you were considered a friend for life. He was a quick to smile and always greeted you with a firm handshake, but by the end of the conversation, you were told he “did hugs” and was sure to leave you with a wonderful hug. Roger had vast experience beginning on the family dairy farm in upstate New York, where at the age of five he was hopping from pedal to pedal in order to drive the tractors needed to do the work. He joined the US Air Force and went to Vietnam from 1969-1973 as a crew chief and IO on the AC-130 Spectre gunship. Following his tour of duty, he began working with Cardinal Industries, were invented machines and jigs used to safely and efficiently build apartments and homes. Roger also worked on farms in New York and Vermont and was much sought after by both the farmers and Veterinarians as a breeder with EAIC. In 1986, Cardinal Industries asked him to move to Georgia, where he once again proved himself to be invaluable as a visionary in the business. Following CI’s closing, Roger began work with the CDC, where once again he not only was the man to consult, but also friend to many. As a very hard-working man who always strived to excel in everything he undertook, Roger also had a creative artist’s eye and talent in everything he did, from farm work to remodeling on the side for many, helping to bring to fruition, the dreams of the homeowner who was told by other contractors that what they wanted was impossible. Roger was a humanitarian in the true sense of the word. He loved his family and others and he made it his life’s work to see everyone he knew was happy. He will be missed by many who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was well-known and well-respected and much-loved by many. Roger was born on November 30, 1950 to Erich and Ruth Meyerhoff, who preceded him in death. Roger leaves behind his devoted and beloved wife of 30 years, Deborah, his children, Cortney (Mike) and Mathew, who made him so proud, and his cherished grandchildren, Andy, Marian, and Dawson. He also leaves behind his dear siblings Ericka, Faye, Garth and Craig, his treasured sister-in-law Deidre, along with his laws, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make donation to Royal Baptist Church, Newnan, GA or VistaCare Hospice, both of whom have provided the family with much love, care and support. Funeral services for Roger Meyerhoff will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 2:00PM at Royal Baptist Church with the Dr. Paul Dennis officiating. McKoon Funeral Home 770-253-4580
