Ronald Maurice Jay

Ronald "Ron" M. Jay, age 85, of Sharpsburg, GA passed away on July 10, 2024, at his residence. He was born on November 23, 1938, in Chickamauga, GA, to the late James Jay Jr. and Martha Louise Jay. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his loving wife, of 54 years, Linda Seale Jay. Ron was an intelligent man of many talents. Ron attended Trion High School where he received many academic achievement awards and was named "Trion High School Boy of the Year" in 1957. Ron attended Georgia Tech before enlisting in the Army at Fort Hood, Texas. He worked for Mead Paper Products as an Industrial Engineer for 33 years until his retirement. Ron, a devout Christian and Godly man, enjoyed being involved within his church and serving wherever he was called; over the years that included serving as a Deacon, singing in the choir, and even being an Awana and Kids' program leader. His Line Creek Baptist Church family held a special place in his heart. Ron was a wonderful husband and an even better father. He recalls the day he officially became a dad as "the best day of his life." As a family, he enjoyed traveling and camping. He was always a top notch and present parent whether it be softball practice, dancing and modeling shows, fundraising events, or even outdoor bike rides and fishing. Ron continued this involvement into his years of both grandpa and great grandpa. There were several items Ron was passionate about including: Dr. Pepper, White Chocolate Reeses, nightly 7 pm Jeopardy, the Atlanta Braves and before his vision declined, he loved to read the AJC. He valued his friendships and loved his weekly visits with the "guys" at Southern Cigar and Tobacco where they treated him like a king (his final visits meant the world to him as his friends joined him at his home). Ron is survived by his daughter, Ronda Griffin (Scott); brother, James "Jimmy" Jay III (Joyce); grandchildren, Brook Benton (James), Steven Banks, Molly Sutton (Aron), and Mark Cline (Chelsea); great-grandchildren, Westlyn Sutton, Wilder Sutton, Wilkes Sutton, and Noah Cline; and many other extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Line Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM with Dr. David Hammonds Officiating. The family will receive friends and family for visitation from 12:00 PM until service time.
