Sara Parker Boyd

Sara Boyd, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed from this life on July 21, 2020. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1925 and grew up in Pampa, Texas, graduating from Pampa High School. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She went back to Pampa to work for Cabot Corporation where she met her future husband, Bob Boyd of Houston, Texas. They were married in 1955 at the First Methodist Church of Pampa. Cabot and Bob’s career took Sara from Pampa to Big Spring, Texas and then on to West Virginia, Ontario-Canada, Massachusetts, back to Pampa, and then to Dunwoody, Georgia in 1979. She always made a happy and safe home for Bob and her two sons, Doug and Glenn, no matter where they lived. Besides raising a family, Sara developed many skills in her personal pursuits including bird watching, sewing, knitting, bridge, and reading. She loved mysteries, and often was able to determine “who done it” before the author’s final reveal. When grandchildren came along, there were many trips, games, hearty laughter, and happy times together. Sara was a patient teacher, whether she was teaching her grandchildren a new game or teaching her daughter in law how to knit European style. Plus she was a good listener and trusted advisor. Bob predeceased Sara in 1990, and Sara took on the added burden of managing a home without her life partner. As a widow, Sara was very involved in Kingswood United Methodist Church and then Dunwoody United Methodist Church, PALS (an adult learning program based in Dunwoody), and always maintained her role as a devoted mother and grandmother. She lived her Christian faith every day, helping others, and sharing kind words. In later life Sara lived in independent and assisted living facilities eventually settling at Wesley Woods in Newnan, Georgia where she maintained her sweet disposition. Sara leaves her sons and daughter in law Doug & Ellie of Southbury, Connecticut; and Glenn of Columbus, Georgia; her grandsons and their wives Clayton & Elsa of Boston, MA/Los Angeles, CA and John & Emily of Brooklyn, NY; and her brother John of Amarillo, Texas. Sara touched many lives and leaves many fond memories.
