Thomas R. "Bob" Callahan

Thomas Robert "Bob" Callahan, of Sharpsburg, GA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home on Feb. 21, 2025, due to heart complications. He was 74. The proud U.S. Navy veteran served two years on active duty (1969-71) as an ordinance mechanic and fire control technician on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Intrepid. He also served three years in the U.S. Naval Reserve (1971-74). Callahan retired in 2001 as a battalion chief with the Fulton County (GA) Fire Department after 30 years of service. He also painted houses, which he loved, for many years. Callahan was an avid reader and movie buff. Bob, who moved to Sharpsburg in 1983, was a master at the video game Zelda, a ping pong champion, and loved all types of card and board games. Most of all, he loved his family. Born July 27, 1950 in Longview, Texas, to his late parents, John and Lamartine Varnadoe Callahan, he grew up in East Point, GA, where he went to Russell High School. Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Chris Eason Callahan; children, Michelle Callahan Moler, Monroe, GA; and Jocelyn Callahan, Sharpsburg, GA, a granddaughter he raised with his wife; six other grandchildren, Lexy Callahan Boutwell (Michael Boutwell), Williamson, GA; Andrew Moler, Monroe, GA; Jordan Moler (Seth Craig), Hoschton, GA; Liana Callahan; Jaiz Callahan; and Lyric Callahan; and seven great-grandchildren, Kinsley Boutwell, Marley Snow, Cameron Boutwell, Charlee Boutwell, Asher Craig, Rhilynn Moler, and Sadie Craig. He is also survived by one brother: David Callahan (Marguerite), of Tyrone, GA. He was preceded in death by his older brothers Michael Lamar Callahan and Jim Ashley Callahan; and son, Jason Callahan. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Rosa Lee Skinner, Hoschton, GA; sister-in-laws, Pat Williams (Mike), Locust Grove, GA; Judy Dalton (Art), Hoschton, GA; and Sandra Benefield Callahan, of Raymond, GA; and many nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan. Visitation will be immediately followed by a memorial service, beginning at 2 p.m., also at McKoon.
