Wiley Joseph Williams, Jr.

Wiley Joseph(“Joe”)Williams, Jr., 88 of Moreland, died September 26. He was the son of the late Pastor Wiley Joseph Williams, Sr. and Annie Lucy Tankersley, on December 2, 1925 at Blue Ridge, Georgia. He grew up in Ocilla and graduated from Ocilla High School in 1943. He entered the US Navy in August of 1943. He served in the Pacific during WWII. He graduated from Mercer University and later earned a Master’s Degree from Georgia State University. He was an entrepreneur and a CPA. He had a CPA firm in Newnan for many years. He was a member of the Newnan Elks Lodge; and an active member of the Newnan Kiwanis club for more than 30 years. He served in many capacities including President; and Lieutenant Governor of the 23rd District of Kiwanis. He was especially interested in projects with an emphasis on children and youth. Joe enjoyed gardening, cooking and the outdoors. He took great pleasure in camping, hunting, fishing, skiing, and scuba diving. He rode his first BRAG at the age of 71! He loved to travel, read, study history and recite poetry. His church membership was important to him; in his younger years his service included deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. Prior to his death he was a member of Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, of Peachtree City. He is survived by his spouse, Linda and his sister Mary Anderson of Cummings; his children: Gary Williams of Moreland and Dr. Jenevieve(Peecher) Kincaid of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren: Robert Williams, Timothy Williams, Samuel Williams, Lauryn Traffanstedt, and great-grandson Logan Williams; his nieces Susan Hussey and Kay Aronson of Cummings.
