Obituary for Alice Virginia Hobby On Monday evening, April 12, 2021, Alice Virginia Bishop Hobby of Sharpsburg, GA passed from this earthly life to her Heavenly home. She was born on March 15, 1923 in Savannah, Ga. to parents, Judge Elmer Bishop and Lois Duggan Bishop who preceded her in death. She was the oldest of 4 daughters. Katherine Bishop Dailey, Eleanor Bishop Boswell, and Dorothy Ann Bishop Roberts also preceded her in death. Virginia lived in Savannah until she was 5 years old and moved to Atlanta where she attended school and graduated from the Atlanta Girls High School. Virginia met and married the love of her life, Berrian A. (BA) Hobby a school mate in January 1942. B. A. Hobby was drafted with orders for overseas for duty. She was afraid she wouldn’t see him again, and eloped telling the Justice of the Peace, Luther T. Morris, that she was 21, when in fact she was 18 and B.A. was 19 years old. After serving 3 years in the Army during World War II, B.A. Hobby returned home. Together they had 6 sons. Virginia loved the city as she had never lived anywhere else. Her husband B.A. Hobby from a farm background in South GA, purchased property in Sharpsburg where she reluctantly moved to raise her family. She was an active member of the PTA and volunteered in the school system where her children attended school. In 1965 she received a Lifetime Membership to Atlanta Parent Teacher’s Association in honor of the offices she held in the PTA. Virginia accepted Christ at the age of 9 years old. She was an active member of the First White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Gordon Road since 1972. Virginia held many offices in the church to include Sunday school teacher, church clerk, children’s choir leader, music director. She was also a loyal and loving companion to her husband B.A. Hobby for 58 wonderful years. During this time she served as his helpmate and a deacon’s wife. Her love for God and church was an important part of her life and daily living. She and her husband worked many countless hours laying out and organizing the First White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Virginia enjoyed working in the flowers and yard after getting used to living in the country. She enjoyed communicating with family and friends on the computer and kept up with those living far away. After breaking her hip in 2016, Virginia slowed down with yard work but continued enjoying the computer and reading the Bible. She was faithful to her friends, enjoying the spring and fall senior luncheons at the Coweta County Fair Grounds, and to her Lord. She is preceded in death by the love of her life B.A. Hobby; sons Judge Hobby, Barrie Hobby, grandchildren Amanda Dawn Hobby and Virginia Marie Hobby. She is survived by sons Joedy Hobby (Deborah) Sharpsburg, GA; Julian Hobby (Lane) of Ocala, FLA; Marlin Hobby (Jennifer) of Carabelle Florida; Mitchell Hobby (Terri) Sharpsburg, GA.
