Laurie Jo Peterson

November 21, 1959 - February 7, 2022

Laurie Jo Peterson entered the arms of Jesus on Monday, February 7, 2022. While we miss her dearly, we rejoice in the fact that she is walking the streets of heaven, no longer bound by ALS, the disease that took her far too soon. Heaven is now smiling and shining a bit brighter. Laurie was born on November 21, 1959, in Huron, South Dakota, the daughter of Robert N. and Dorothy M. Peterson. She is survived by her loving husband and partner Calvin Peterson; son Jesse and daughter-in-law Mandy Peterson; daughter Brooke and daughter-in-law Meagan O'Pry; brothers Steve (Martha), Russ (Mary), Mark, Bob (Kim), Brad (Vivian) Peterson; and sisters Susan Lockhart, Sarah (Leland) Peterson, and Patty (Steve) Kappel. Laurie was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Doug, and her niece Amanda. She was blessed with a large extended family who loved her dearly and will miss her radiant smile and generous heart. After many years in banking, most recently at BB&T in Newnan, she retired to travel and spend precious time with her husband, family, and friends. She was also an active member of and attended the United Methodist Churches in Haralson and Hogansville. A member of both the Newnan and Peachtree Kiwanis for over 15 years, she was also a supporter of the local schools, Shriners, March of Dimes, and the Alzheimers Association. Laurie loved to cook, bake, crochet, read, travel, camp, play cards, and keep in touch with her family and dear friends. In the face of adversity, she has taught us how to remain positive and celebrate the time we have with each other. Celebration of life services are still pending. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the ALS Association or Wellstar Hospice. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.mckoon.com.
