Ruby Long McMichael

January 4, 1929 - April 22, 2022

Mrs. Ruby Long McMichael, 93, of Newnan passed away Friday, April 22, 2022, after living several years with Alzheimer's. Born January 4,1929 in Newnan, GA to the late Frank and Minnie Long. She graduated from Newnan High School, then attended Greenleaf Business School. She had a successful career as a legal secretary for a prominent law firm in Atlanta before becoming a full time mother and housewife as well as helping her husband, Roscoe, manage a successful home building company in Newnan, GA. Her life was full of many activities: being a wife, parenting 5 children, Cub Scout Den Mother and Brownie leader, room mother for all 5 children, PTA member, chauffeur for children activities plus much more. She immensely enjoyed her children and grandchildren whether watching a game at the ballpark, reading to them, watching a piano or dance recital or just being around her family. Most of her life she attended First Baptist Church in Newnan, where she also taught Sunday School. Mrs. McMichael was preceded in death by her husband Roscoe McMichael, sisters; Hilda Cofield, Elsie Hardison and Betty Long. Survivors include her sister, Laura Long, children, Sheila McMichael of Newnan, Randy McMichael (Sharon) of Birmingham, AL, David McMichael (Sharon) of Newnan, Kay Young (Pat) of Marietta, GA, Mary Jane Murphey (Hutch) of Newnan; grandchildren, Katherine McMichael, John McMichael (Kellam), Colson McMichael, Margaret Welborn (Steven) , Christie Battle (Alex), Hutch Murphey, Jr. (Abbie), Mac Murphey (Haley), Harrison Young, Robert Young; 9 great-grandchild; (Michael Battle, Emily Battle, Charlotte McMichael, Sam Murphey, Steven Welborn, Parks Murphey, Carolyn McMichael, Mac Murphey and Lily Welborn), nieces, nephews and their children. Mrs. McMichael was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a full life and will be greatly missed by family and friends The graveside service celebrating Ruby's life is Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with Dr. Jimmy Ellison officiating.
