Thomas John Mort

November 11, 1960 - September 21, 2021

Thomas John Mort passed away unexpectedly on September 21 with his wife by his side. Tom leaves behind his wife, Catherine Belk, who was the love of his life, his six children, Jackie Campbell, Heather Mort, Hannah Mort, Tim Belk, Elizabeth Mort and Tommy Belk as well as four grandchildren who he adored, Stephanie Michelle, Carrie Marie, Hailey Grace and Madison Brooke, his siblings Mike Mort, Cindy Atkins and Joe Mort, his best friend, Heather Temple and his beloved dogs, Reagan and Cash. Tom was a firefighter for twenty-three years. Even after he retired, he was always wanting to help people and had a lot of compassion for them. For the past eleven years he worked for Springs and Suspension and he thought of everyone as family. Tom admired his boss, John Bray, very much. He often said John was the best man he has ever known. Tom enjoyed tinkering with his cars, putting together models and he was an avid Matchbox/Hotwheels collector. On the weekends, he enjoyed loading up his truck with Cathie and the dogs and then getting lost wherever the road would take them. Tom was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church where he enjoyed being a core team member for the youth group. He enjoyed seeing the kids grow up, get married and start families of their own. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.mckoon.com Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Sunday, September 26 at McKoon Funeral Home 38 Jackson St. Newnan, GA. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church on Monday, September 27 at 11:00 AM. The family invites their friends and family to their home following the mass.
