Edna Fleming Sewell

Edna Fleming Sewell passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2026, at the age of 90, following a long struggle with dementia. Edna was born in Due West, South Carolina, on June 1, 1936, to her late parents, J.L. and Hannie Fleming. She attended Erskine College, where she majored in education. After college, Edna moved to Newnan, Georgia, to pursue her dream of becoming a mathematics teacher. She spent her career with the Coweta County School System, where she taught Algebra at Newnan High School. Shortly after moving to Newnan, Edna met the love of her life, Glover Sewell, Jr. Together, they built a loving family and shared 44 years of marriage. They were blessed with four children: Anne Marie Johnson (Skip), Byram Sewell (Terri), Eric Sewell (Carrie), and Jeff Sewell (Muffin). Edna was a devoted and proud grandmother to her ten grandchildren: Quade Sewell (Kara), Sydney Dixon (Tyler), Ansley Kavis (Eric), Lindsey Bening (Hunter), Bolling Moore (JK), Harrison Sewell, Thompson Sewell, Cullen Sewell, Lilah Jane Sewell, and Lauren Pope (Josh). She was also blessed with seven precious great-grandchildren, Killian and Lorelai Sewell, Jamie and Audrey Kavis, Parker and Hudson Pope, and Olivia Dixon who is on the way. Edna treasured her family and especially enjoyed family gatherings and the many happy times spent together at Lake Wedowee. Edna was also deeply loved by her extended family. She is survived by her brothers, Dan Fleming and Ronnie Fleming; her sisters, Cornelia Powell and Nancy Humphreys; and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was preceded in death by he r sister, Betty Durcan, and her brother, Preston Fleming. Edna was a proud Glen Arden counselor and passed her love of this special summer camp on to her children and grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club, where she devoted many years to serving her community. She was also a faithful member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for most of her adult life. Edna found joy in so many of life's simple pleasures. She loved working in her yard and tending her flowers, taking daily walks around her neighborhood, playing and winning any and all games, reading, singing, traveling, and spending time with the people she loved. She had a genuine appreciation for life and for the people who surrounded her. Above all, Edna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend. Her love of family, her commitment to others, her faith, and her joyful spirit will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love that will continue through her children, grandchildren, and generations to come. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10 at 10:00 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 at McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, GA.
