Elna Whitlock Couch

Mrs. Elna Whitlock Couch, age 82, of Senoia, Ga., died Sept. 17, 2009 at her residence as a result of complications of cancer. Mrs. Couch was born Feb. 7, 1927 in Fayette County, Ga., as one of 12 children born to the late Alton and Phoebe Carden Whitlock. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her siblings Beasley Whitlock, Chester Whitlock, Winston Whitlock, Bob Whitlock and Charlie Whitlock. Also preceding her in death was her husband Vance Addy Couch; two sons, Eddie and Barry Couch and grandson Marcus Couch. Mrs. Couch is survived by her daughter-in-law Robin Couch, grandchildren Michael Couch, Maure Couch, April Couch Duke and her husband Marty and Ashley Couch. Her life was brightened by her three great grandchildren Brantley Couch, Autumn Duke and Ansley Couch. Surviving siblings include Inez Young, Mary Dettmering, Mae Turner, Mark “Buck” Whitlock, Larry Whitlock and Ronnie Whitlock. Elna enjoyed a life in which friends and family were paramount. Nothing was more important to her than her passion being the consummate wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and sister. Everybody was eligible for an abundant dose of her loving care and her random acts of kindness. Elna loved nothing better than to surprise family or friends with their favorite foods. She made it a point to know everybody’s favorites. Anybody who knew her and her considerable skills in the kitchen would attest to the fact that she could “make water taste good.” For years she and her family have been the go to people for old fashioned barbecue in Senoia. Throughout her life, she wanted nothing more out of life than to share what she had in life to make life better for others. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street where the family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. in the McKoon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Whitlock and Rev. Dan McFarland officiating. Interment will be in the Senoia City Cemetery. Flowers are a wonderful memorial gift, but her family requested that they be omitted and contributions be made in Mrs. Couch’s memory to The American Cancer Society, 250 Williams St., Atlanta, GA 30303 in recognition of her brave struggle with this disease and her family’s desire to help others deal with its consequences.
