Hilda Lee Bourdeau

Mrs. Hilda Lee Hamby Bourdeau passed away peacefully in the late evening hours of Tuesday, November 7, 2023, in Newnan, Georgia. She was blessed with a long life, and had celebrated her 100th birthday just this year, surrounded by a large gathering of family and friends. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Richard D. Hamby, and Barbara Carter Hamby, her beloved husband Maurice Joseph Bourdeau, their son, Joseph A. Bourdeau, and grandson, Tim Kistler. Born in Madisonville Kentucky on July 28th, 1923, Hilda became a traveller at a young age. Her family moved through South Carolina, Florida, and Alabama before settling in Lancaster Pennsylvania, where they opened a boarding house. The fifth of eleven children, Hilda was no stranger to hard work, and helped often with cooking, cleaning and entertaining children, as well as caring for her younger siblings. She married her beloved husband Maurice Bourdeau in 1950, and the couple eventually settled in Atlanta, where they raised four children. From her search for the perfect haircut, to baking her amazing fried pies and enjoying international travel, Hilda loved to experience life's best. She travelled the world with her husband and children, enjoying great food, shopping, and company all along the way. Later in life Hilda pursued creative endeavors, exploring writing and painting in her newfound free time. A highly competitive Canasta player, she loved regaling everyone with her stories, and her paintings of landscapes and birds now adorn the walls of many a loving family member's home. Hilda and Moe's house in Peachtree City was a warm and inviting gathering place for many years, and she greatly enjoyed her position at the center of an extensive family. Hilda is survived by her children, Carol Bourdeau Foster and her husband Ray, Barbara Bourdeau Draper and her husband Charles, Judy Bourdeau Brown, and her daughter-in-law, Pat Downey Bourdeau, the widow of Joseph A. Bourdeau. Hilda was the loving grandmother to Stephen Jones, Kimberly DeBello, Amanda Draper Phillips, Jonathan Draper, Joseph A. Bourdeau, II, and Madeline Rose Bourdeau. She was the great grandmother to Carolyn Kistler, Darbie Phillips, Dagmar Phillips, Dalanie Phillips, Tommy Phillips, Finley Phillips, Theodore Phillips, Charlie Draper, Hannah DeBello, Drake DeBello, and Jayce DeBello. She is the Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass honoring and celebrating Hilda's life is Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. George Catholic Church, 771 Roscoe Road, in Newnan, with Father Stephen Lyness officiating. The family will receive friends following the mass in the fellowship hall where the church will be providing a mercy meal. Hilda will be buried next to her loving husband, Maurice, on Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Westminster Memorial Gardens, 2090 Highway 54, in Peachtree City.
