Linda Lillian Geiger

Linda Lillian (Luhr) Geiger, beloved wife of Lieutenant Colonel John Franklin "Frank" Geiger, U.S. Army (Ret.), passed away on May 3, 2026, at the Pearl of East Cobb in Marietta, Georgia. She was 86 at the time of her death. Linda was preceded in death by several family members, including her granddaughter, U.S. Army First Lieutenant Lauren Taylor Hovey. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne & David Hovey, granddaughter, Elizabeth Hovey, and great-grandson, Zayden Lara. She will be laid to rest at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan, Georgia. Born October 11, 1939, in Jamaica, New York, and lived briefly in Valley Stream. Linda was the only child of William Henry Luhr and Hilda Florence (Shaw) Luhr. After her father's early passing, she moved with her mother and stepfather, Andrew Michelson, to West Palm Beach, Florida, where she grew up helping in her mother's fabric shop. A popular student at Palm Beach High School, Linda was a cheerleader, golfer, and an excellent driver who often accompanied her mother on long road trips. Linda attended Palm Beach Junior College and later Florida State University as a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Her college years were cut short when her mother became ill. After her mother's passing, she moved to Dearborn, Michigan, where she worked in Ford Motor Company's Labor Relations Department before becoming a United Airlines flight attendant based out of Newark, New Jersey. In 1960, while being based in New Jersey, Linda met West Point cadet Frank Geiger, beginning a lifelong partnership marked by adventure, devotion, and courage. They married on July 23, 1960, and soon embarked on their first assignment in Germany. It was the beginning of an adventurous journey, moving and visiting many places all over the world. Linda was the ideal Army wife. She was beautiful, sophisticated, warm, adventurous, and deeply involved in community life. In the 60's and 70's, she had a knack for hosting wonderful dinner parties, providing great food, music, and games. She served as President of the Officers' Wives Club in West Point, New York and Kaiserslautern, Germany; organized an International Baton Twirling Competition in Germany; worked as a key administrator in political campaigns in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York; and was the editor of the successful West Point Officers' Wives Cookbook. A major humanitarian effort called the "Operation Babylift" in San Francisco was a huge success, attributed to the many volunteers, such as herself, who worked around the clock for countless hours. In Atlanta, she was an executive administrative assistant for Merrill Lynch and later became a realtor for Northside Realty. Her love and devotion to her daughter were remarkable, with years of endless late nights spent sewing costumes and early mornings hitting the road to baton twirling competitions. She was an avid reader, finding joy and solace in the pages of numerous books and magazines across many genres, and loved a good game of Bridge. She enjoyed making silk flower arrangements and beautiful ornate bows, traveling, solving crossword puzzles, bingo, bowling, and finding a good bargain. In her later years, Linda faced many challenges with dementia and the effects of a stroke. Her grace, warmth, and bright smiles still managed to shine through.
