Patsy Delma Payton

Mrs. Patsy D. Payton, 84, of Newnan, passed peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at home in Newnan, surrounded by by family. She was born July 23, 1939 in Newnan, Georgia, to the late Fred Smith and Helen Francis "Eva" Dingler Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Grady M. Payton, and siblings, Radford Smith, Polly Turner, Peggy Robinson, Emily Jo Smith and Ray Smith. Patsy grew up in Newnan. Although she had little formal education, her innate wisdom was the kind you couldn't get from any school or book. She was a homemaker, waitress, and an incredible cook. Her specialty was Salmon Soup and cat-head biscuits. (No cats were harmed...) She loved to travel, and never missed an opportunity to visit a beach, or go on an adventure. Whether cruising, parasailing in her 70's or attending a Tina Turner concert, she lived life to the fullest. She was an avid FarmVille player for the last several years. Her evening hours were often spent "playing my game", and through that, she made friends around the world. Known to most as "Granny," Patsy truly loved everybody. She was equally comfortable talking with prince or pauper. She bore no judgment, but would quickly "straighten you out" if you needed it. Then, she'd likely offer coffee and never look back. Material possessions held little value for Patsy. She needed little, save her computer, Bible, and treasured picture of Jesus. But oh how she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren! Her greatest gift was teaching everyone to love unconditionally. She never said "goodbye," but ended every call or visit with the simple promise of "Later!" Visitation will be Friday, February 2, 2024, from noon to 2 pm, at the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan. The service will follow at 2:00 pm, with Brian Hosmer officiating, and Mistee Menard delivering a eulogy. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
