Regina Holbrook Burrell

Regina "Gina" Jordan Holbrook Burrell, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026 at Westhill Newnan Crossing Assisted Living. She was born June 20, 1936, in Atlanta, GA to the late Reverend Tim Woodrow Holbrook and Grace Genora Mince Holbrook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Holbrook, and her nephews, Tim Holbrook and Mark Morris. As the daughter of a Methodist minister, Gina had the opportunity to move around and make many new friends. In the various communities she lived in, she developed other passions, such as reading, listening to music, singing, and cooking. Among her favorite memories as a child, were Sunday afternoons when the family hopped in their car and her Daddy drove them to explore new places. Alongside her best friend of nearly 80 years, Liz-Beth Van Cleave Brown, she joyfully wandered through the Demorest area on foot and horseback. These excursions helped to develop her love for birds, butterflies, and flowers. Until the last few years, it was common for Gina to listen to classical music, or Aaron Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man," while reading 3 books at one time. Her love for children and reading drew her to a career in elementary education. Teaching students to read gave her immense pleasure. She began teaching in Columbus, GA, and, after marriage, taught in Buchanan, GA. She was asked to develop the kindergarten program at Bremen First Methodist Church, and she finished her career at H. A. Jones Elementary, teaching 1st Grade. She is survived by her 'baby brother,' Larry Holbrook (Kathy) of Cleveland, GA; her sister-in-law, Beverly Holbrook, of Alto, GA; daughters, Beth Beggs (Tom) of Newland, NC and Leigh Munson (Stanley) of Newnan, GA; granddaughters, Sarah Beggs (Sam Scott) of Atlanta, GA and Lindsay McCulley (Chase) of Navarre, FL; great grandsons, Everett and Silas McCulley; her best friend Liz-Beth Van Cleave Brown; nieces, Heather Holbrook of Winder, GA and Monica Murray (Michael) of Heflin, AL; nephew, Andy Holbrook (Theresa) of Atlanta, GA; and many beloved cousins and friends. We thank the caring family of staff at Westhill Assisted Living who showed love and compassion during Gina's last years. We cannot possibly express our gratitude for the unfailing love and care given to Gina by her Adoration Hospice caregivers, Kay, Polly, and Darcie. They made her laugh and smile each visit. Newnan First United Methodist Church and their Friendship Committee lovingly embraced Gina and provided comfort, companionship, cards, Advent bags, visits, and in-person Communion services throughout her last years. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 10, 2026 from 1 - 2 pm at McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, GA. A celebration of Gina's life will follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation of books for children.
