Sandra Jean Burgess

Sandra Jean Wolfe Burgess, lovingly known as "sweetie", mom, and MawMaw, went to be with our Lord on May 9, 2026 at the age of 75. Born on October 11, 1950 in Pensacola, FL, Sandra lived a life centered around faith, family, love, laughter, and showing up for the people she loved. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend with much warmth and sassiness. She shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Bill, and built a life centered on family. Sandra retired from Bank of America after many years of dedicated service. Outside of work, she enjoyed life's simple pleasures - shopping, traveling, and spending time with the people she loved most. Kohl's was a favorite place to shop, and her family joked that she must own stock considering how often she was there. Sandra especially cherished the annual girls' trips to the mountains and the beach, making memories filled with laughter, stories, and togetherness. Known for being "fashionably late," she embraced the title proudly and even had a t-shirt that said so! Her family will forever smile at the memory of waiting on her, knowing she would arrive with a good excuse (and always someone else's fault, never hers). Sandra was strong, independent, loving, and protective (especially when it came to anyone touching her perfectly styled hair). She was there when her children and grandchildren needed advice, comfort, or simply a listening ear. Her children spoke to her every day, and her presence was a steady source of love and reassurance in their lives. Sandra treasured her role as "MawMaw" and was deeply devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill; her children, Amanda Watkins and Cliff (Brooke) Burgess; her sisters, Shirley (Larry) Sims and Pat (Jeff) Scott; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Victoria) Black, Cierra (Kyle) Harrison, Emily (JD) Pilgrim, Becca (Tyler) Wilson, Cierra (Jonathan) Ciscernos, Cheyenne Wynn, and Tyler Wynn; five great-grandchildren; and many other beloved family members who will miss her dearly. Sandra's faith remained important throughout her life. She loved her church family at Newnan Church of Christ and faithfully watched services online when she became unable to attend in person. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing Sandra's love, humor, traditions, and unwavering presence will remain with them always. The funeral service for Sandra will be on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, GA with Rev. Chris Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 656 Roscoe Rd., Newnan, GA. The family will receive friends from 12 - 2 pm on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 prior to the funeral service.
